About Contrasts Tordenskiolds gate 12, 0160 Oslo, Norway Website

@eatbyle

Located in Oslo, About Contrasts is a hospitality concept that transitions seamlessly throughout the day, operating as a specialty café and bistro before transforming into a cocktail destination in the evening. Led by founder Adrián Michalčík, the venue is built around a philosophy that places people, craftsmanship and hospitality at the centre of the experience.

That thinking extends beyond the menu. Every part of the venue has been designed to encourage interaction, support creativity and give the team more time to engage with guests.

The main service area is centred around a custom Paloma workstation, chosen to support a highly interactive style of bartending. Rather than separating bartender and guest, the station keeps preparation visible, inviting conversation while every drink is made.

The cocktail programme is built around house-made ingredients, reinterpretations of classics and original creations developed specifically for About Contrasts. With production taking place in full view of guests, the workstation becomes part of the experience itself.

Designed for a single bartender, the layout provides immediate access to every essential function without unnecessary movement, allowing service to remain both efficient and personal.

Supporting Creativity Behind the Scenes

Away from the main floor, a Tayēr station sits within the venue's multifunctional creative space.

Used for private events, menu development and collaborative workshops, the station adapts to a changing programme that may be operated by a bartender one day and a chef the next. Its interchangeable inserts and configurable layout allow the workspace to evolve depending on the task at hand.

The flexibility to switch between production, preparation and service reflects the venue's broader approach to hospitality, where spaces are designed to support people rather than fixed routines.

Integrated Carbonation

One of the most distinctive elements of the main station is an integrated carbonation system developed by Behind Bars.

Rather than relying on separate carbonation equipment elsewhere in the venue, the system allows cocktails to be carbonated or re-carbonated directly at the workstation during service. This creates new opportunities for experimentation while reducing unnecessary movement behind the bar.

For Adrian, the ability to adjust carbonation at the point of service has become an important part of the creative process and something rarely seen integrated into a professional cocktail workstation.
